Burnley 2-0 Liverpool: Reds suffer shock defeat

Liverpool suffered a shocking 2-0 loss to  Burnley on Saturday at the Turf Moor stadium.
Having secured a crucial win away to Arsenal, many thought the newly promoted Burnley team had no chance of a home win against Jurgen Klopp’s men.
However, Burnley, keen to respond to an opening day home defeat to Swansea, took just two minutes to take control of the game when Vokes scored the first Premier League goal of his career, in his 28th appearance at this level.
The goal was the result of appalling play by full-back Nathaniel Clyne who, in attempting to play the ball out of defence, simply fed it directly to Gray who in turn found Vokes, on the edge of the area.
Liverpool had 80% of possession and 26 shots – but only tested Clarets keeper Tom Heaton with shots from distance.
Burnley only had one other effort at goal, which was off target, but the statistics belied how little threat the Reds posed when they came forward.
New Burnley signing Steven Defour led a charge through the middle and capitalised on a fortunate bounce off Ragnar Klavan to tee up Gray, who side-stepped two tackles and lashed a low left-footer across Simon Mignolet into the far corner.
In the 64th minute, Klopp made his first substitution, changing up the attack by introducing Divock Origi for Sturridge.
By now Liverpool were enjoying the majority of possession and the game was mostly being played in the Clarets’ territory, but without any real chances to speak of.
Heaton was required to make a fingertip save to keep out a shot from Marko Grujic after the substitute showed good strength from 18 yards but, for all their possession, Liverpool failed to seriously test the home goalkeeper again.
