Monchengladbach unhappy with rescheduling of City game

Borussia Monchengladbach have reacted angrily to their Champions League game with Manchester City being moved to 7.45pm on Wednesday after it was cancelled on Tuesday.
The game at the Etihad Stadium was scheduled for Tuesday evening but was called off due to the heavy rainstorm in Manchester which rendered the pitch unplayable and the game has now been moved to Wednesday by 7.45pm, against the 6pm that the Bundesliga club would have wanted.
Monchengladbach wanted the game at 6pm on Wednesday so they could fly back to Germany immediately after the game, but after negotiations with Uefa, it has been moved to Wednesday 7.45pm.
City offered Monchengladbach use of the 32 en suite bedrooms at their training complex, but the Bundesliga club officials are likely to decline.
Monchengladbach’s spokesman Markus Aretz said: “City offered us the chance to spend the next night in their academy, but that would have made no difference to us because the hotel wasn't a problem. We wanted to fly back tomorrow.
“I think it's always a disadvantage when you have to stay one day longer than is planned.”
Most of the ‘Gladbach fans will however return back to Germany, leaving only a handful of them remaining to cheer their team at the Etihad and defender Oscar Wendt feels sorry for them: “It's hard for us because we prepared for this match, but it's harder for our supporters because they had a long journey here and bought their tickets.
“Ninety per cent of our supporters have to leave tomorrow so they can't see the game.
“It's not our decision, we don't have any influence, so we have to take it. We are sad that our supporters probably can't see the game, now we have to go back to the hotel and focus on the match tomorrow.”
