Manchester City 2-0 Watford: Guardiola back to winning ways

David Silva scores for Manchester City

Manchester City returned to winning ways after they defeated Watford 2-0 at the Etihad on Wednesday evening.

Pablo Zabaleta and David Silva were the heroes for Pep Guardiola as their strikes were enough to halt their slide.

First Half
It was a measured opening from both sides with City just edging the early possession and Nolito looking like he would cause problems for the Hornets.

And it wouldn't be long before City will force a save from the Watford keeper, as Kevin De Bruyne's first time effort after a Raheem Sterling set-up but the goalkeeper tipped away well.

City kept pressing, as Sterling was looking quite impressive and they forced another save as De Bruyne slipped in Nolito who drew a stop from Gomes from a narrow angle, only for Gundogan to volley over the bar.

City would eventually take the lead in the 33rd minute as Pablo Zabaleta arrived at the near post to tuck in a De Bruyne cross.

Watford weren't really giving so much in the game, and they would go into the break behind, with City having the upper hand.

Second Half

At the restart, City kept looking like the better side but Watford were also showing signs of improvement, as they passed the ball around nicely.

And as the half wore on, the Hornets began looking a little more adventurous but it was still Zabaleta's strike separating both sides.

Sterling then went close for City, and that should have been the second for Guardiola's men, but the England international missed. Watford were now looking increasingly dangerous.

Ighalo then went close for the Hornets, but his effort with a volley off an Amrabat cross was poor, and City breath a sigh of relief.

However, City would then score what would seal the win as David Silva struck late on and try as best as they would, City would record a much needed win following consecutive weeks of setbacks.
