BREAKING NEWS: Arsenal ready Rodriguez bid
Reports from Spain suggest Arsenal are pondering a move for Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez after missing out on Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger is ready to tempt Rodriguez with a move to the Emirates Stadium, with reports in Spain insisting he has fallen down the pecking order at Real under Zinedine Zidane.
The emergence of Marco Asensio in pre-season and his superb display in the UEFA Super Cup final against Sevilla on Tuesday night after his return to the club from a loan spell at Espanyol last season, means James’ chances are likely to be further limited this term and he may welcome a chance to get his career back on track in the Premier League.
Even so, the report notes any agreement is far from certain as the Londoners are having a poor summer in the transfer market and have struggled to put together a number of deals, including moves for Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi and Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.
