Drogba denies return to premier league
Ivory Coast football legend and Montreal Impact forward Didier Drogba has denied reports linking him to English Championship side Aston Villa this summer.
Rumors of the 38-year-old joining Villa went viral on Social media following claims by the club owner Tony Xia claimed that the Clarets were closing in on a “world class” striker.
Interestingly, Aston Villa manager is Roberto Di Matteo whom worked with the former Chelsea striker during their time at Stamford Bridge and successfully too as they won the 2012 Champions League.
However, Drogba has moved to quell speculations about his future in the MLS by using his official Twitter account to distance himself from such talks.
“Just come out of training at @impactmontreal & a million messages & trending on Twitter saying I was in Birmingham today,” Drogba wrote.
Drogba has scored eight goals for Montreal Impact in 15 MLS games for the this season.
Villa are desperate to return to the premier league after they relegated at the end of last season and have struggled a bit in the Championship with just one win in four games so far.
