Kante get new nickname at Chelsea
The former Leicester City defensive midfielder joined the Stamford Bridge side immediately after the Euro 2016 for a fee of around £30m and has played every minute of Chelsea’s three matches so far this season as he looks a perfect fit for Antonio Conte.
Premier league teams have different tradition when it comes to new players joining the team. For instance, Manchester United players will make a new player sign for the whole team and Chelsea have in recent seasons nicknamed a lot of players most notably of recent is Spaniard Cesar Azpilicueta who dey nicknamed ‘Dave’ for Cesar Azpilicueta because his name was too tough to pronounce.
Chelsea players praise Kante’s ability to scurry around the pitch, snuffing out attacks from the opposition just like a ‘Rat’ will do to get food or evade danger.
‘I don’t understand very well what it means!’ Kante told Chelsea TV before a translator offered the word ‘mouse’ as an alternative.
Kante laughed before telling the presenter: ‘I try to give my best for the team. If I have done well I am happy.’
