Football transfer rumours: Arsenal fail to land Daniel Sturridge on loan?

But on occasions such as these the Mill prefers to comfort itself by focusing on things that definitely did not happen. No siree. Daniel Sturridge nearly went to Arsenal on loan – the only way to travel if you’re an out-of-favour England international these days – but Jurg said no. He also said no, but in a far more shouty voice, when banter’s Mamadou Sakho informed him he would be going nowhere.
Similarly staying put and/or counting the days, hours and minutes until the January transfer window FLINGS OPEN is Manchester United’s Morgan Schneiderlin despite some interest from Spurs late in the day – Edward Woodward presumably brandishing a cross and a silver bullet at Levy. Also riding the pine in north London until 2017 will be Mathieu Debuchy, who failed to secure a move from Arsenal to Espanyol and Yaya Sanogo, who wasn’t allowed out to play with Leeds.
Chelsea meanwhile, failed in their attempt to sign Marcelo Brozovic from Inter while poor ol’ Axel Witsel spent 13 hours at Juventus waiting in vain for a move from Zenit St Petersburg to be rubber-stamped and Celtic were unable to land Scotland star James Morrison – Brendan Rodgers’s powers of persuasion falling short this time.
Onwards and upwards though, and there are only four short months until January, when Paris Saint-Germain are expected to rekindle their interest in £50m Real Madrid man Karim Benzema and of course, splash £75m on David Luiz. 2017, the Mill assumes, will also usher in new beginnings for Andros Townsend, who’ll prise himself from the Crystal Palace bench to join West Brom, where Saido Berahino remains under lock and key in a disused coal mine, furiously scribbling pictures of Tony Pulis in some particularly compromising situations.
And what of Jonjo Shelvey’s Newcastle? Well they’re not called the Magpies for nothing because good ol’ Uncle Mike has managed to spend nearly £60m on 12 new players and turn a profit of almost £30m. That must be the bad thing.
