Onwards and upwards though, and there are only four short months until January, when Paris Saint-Germain are expected to rekindle their interest in £50m Real Madrid man Karim Benzema and of course, splash £75m on David Luiz. 2017, the Mill assumes, will also usher in new beginnings for Andros Townsend, who’ll prise himself from the Crystal Palace bench to join West Brom, where Saido Berahino remains under lock and key in a disused coal mine, furiously scribbling pictures of Tony Pulis in some particularly compromising situations.
And what of Jonjo Shelvey’s Newcastle? Well they’re not called the Magpies for nothing because good ol’ Uncle Mike has managed to spend nearly £60m on 12 new players and turn a profit of almost £30m. That must be the bad thing.
