Serie A review:Juve, Napoli, Roma set the pace, as Inter win

It was another weekend of Serie A action following the international break with several interesting fixtures. Joe Hart made began life in Italy after his loan switch from Manchester City but marked it with a blunder after gifting Atalanta a goal as Torino were beaten 2-1. Roma are showing the good stuff again and look like they will compete this year, while Napoli are also showing that last season’s performances were a fluke even though they have lost Gonzalo Higuain.
Champions Juventus continue to live up to expectation, while it was contrasting fortunes for the Milan clubs – AC losing at the San Siro, while Inter recorded their first win of the De Boer era. Here, we review the games from last weekend.
AC Milan 0-1 Udinese
Another loss for Milan means they are 14th on the table after three games. The Rossonerri have now lost two of their three games of the new Serie A season after a Stipe Perica 88th minute goal condemned them to yet another defeat. Udinese are sixth after the win at the San Siro with six points.
Roma 3-2 Sampdoria
The capital club took the lead, then went behind before coming back to win in a keenly contested clash in Rome. The win sets Roma back on track after the setback of the last round as they now occupy the third spot on the table. Sampdoria meanwhile, remain fifth despite the loss, having won their opening two fixtures.
Juventus 3-1 Sassuolo
The defending champions won as expected with their most expensive signing Gonzalo Higuain netting a brace from Miralem Pjanic scored the third. They are early pace-setters with maximum points having won all three games so far. Sassuolo on their part, are 15th, with the loss to the Old Lady being their second in three games.
Palermo 0-3 Napoli
Napoli are showing they can cope in the absence of Gonzalo Higuain as the impressive win has now placed them where they finished last term – second place. The loss however means Palermo are in the relegation zone so early in the season, having barely escaped last term.
Pescara 1-2 Inter
Inter won their first game under Frank De Boer in a hard-fought victory over Pescara late on Sunday. The win now sees the Nerrazzurri on four points and 11th on the table, while their hosts also has the same number of points, but are eighth due to superior goals difference.

Atalanta 2-1 Torino
Cheivo 1-1 Lazio
As expected, Juventus lead the table, followed by last season’s runners-up, Napoli. Juve have maximum points, while Napoli have seven, same as Roma. Palermo, Crotone and Empoli make up the trio are in the relegation zone after the opening three games.
Meanwhile, the game between Genoa and Fiorentina was abandoned due to rain.
