Chelsea seek to match best ever winning run
When the champions roll into the Stadium of Light on Wednesday, Antonio Conte and his men will be seeking to tie a club record – 10 straight wins.
And before them is a Sunderland side that on current form [five league games] cannot be handled with kids gloves.
This is because no matter the situation that the Black Cats have found themselves [always around the relegation spots], they have managed to be great opposition to the Blues. The last time Chelsea won on Sunderland’s ground was February 1, 2011, when they achieved a 4-2 victory but they will face the Black Cats without the inform Eden Hazard.
And just like it was against Middlesbrough, when they struggled to a 1-0 win, teams are coming to grips with the 3-4-3, even though they are been negated with somewhat negative tactics.
It could be history repeating itself as the Chelsea website reports, “By coincidence, the 10th in that last sequence, 11 years ago during the back-to-back titles season, was a 2-1 victory at Mick McCarthy’s Sunderland.
“It is our all-time best run in a single season and could be matched this evening at the same stadium.”

Head to head
Conte said he is not counting wins but points, but if they record a 10th straight win, it would give the Blues a six-point buffer to second-placed Arsenal. ‘I don’t like to think about records,’ he said. ‘Every win is important for me because you can take three points to increase your position in the league table.
‘In this case, we have won nine games in a row and simply hope to continue that way. We all know that it is not easy to carry on winning but we are trying hard.’
